It was only a matter of hours after a political Web site ran a story about Congressman Scott Garrett’s chief-of-staff’s previous job lobbying for a mortgage firm involved in subprime lending troubles that Bergen County Democrat Dennis Shulman’s campaign jumped on the news.
“Just how out of touch is Scott Garrett?” said Shulman campaign spokesman Jeffrey Hauser in an e-mail forwarding the story to reporters.

“Dennis was never running against (primary candidate) Camille Abate,” Hauser said. “He is running because he feels Scott Garrett is not right for the district.”
The congressman’s campaign manager, Amanda Gasperino, said the chief-of-staff’s previous employment with a lobbying group has not changed Garrett’s stance against business bailouts. In general, she said, the campaign will focus on finding ways to help taxpayers. (Read more at NJ Herald)
