Garrett’s record of loyal support for the Bush Administration’as failed fiscal policies has lead us to a fiscal disaster — Garrett talks a great game, but what has he accomplsihed
Haworth, NJ: The Shulman for Congress campaign today expressed deep concern about the report that the Bush Administration acknowledges a deficit of $482 billion in fiscal year 2008.
“When Bush came to office, our federal budget was in surplus,” said Dennis Shulman, the Democratic nominee in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District. “But Bush and Garrett have squandered our fiscal future on a war without end in Iraq and massive wasteful spending benefiting Republican companies like Halliburton.”
“The latest Bush deficit projection is horrifying enough on its own, but it excludes the full cost of the war in Iraq or the need for additional stimulus to fix the Bush-Garrett economy. Scott Garrett got elected to Congress claiming to be a budget hawk, and indeed sits on the House Budget Committee. Enough with the excuses — in his career in Washington, our fiscal situation has collapsed while Garrett has voted with Bush and his failed policies nearly 90% of the time.”
Our district deserves someone to take responsibility for their own record — when elected, I will be a force for change and for fiscal prudence in Washington, rather than source of excuses.”

Dennis Shulman was recently profiled by The New Yorker and Time as momentum for his campaign continues to grow, and recent polling in the district validates the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s recent decision to upgrade NJ-5 as an “Emerging Race.” Only 31% of likely voters in NJ-5 plan to re-elect Garrett and, by a 68-17% margin, the district seeks change from George Bush’s policies.
Dr. Dennis Shulman has gained international recognition for his 30 years of work as a psychologist, educator, and author. An ordained rabbi for five years and blind since childhood, he has lived in New Jersey’s Fifth District for more than 25 years with his wife, Dr. Pamela Tropper, an obstetrician. They have two adult daughters.
