Shulman Asks Garrett - Do You Still Support Privatizing Social Security?

On the 73rd Birthday of Social Security, Shulman Asks Garrett to Clarify Whether He Still Seeks to Privatize Social Security

Haworth, NJ: Over the last 82 days of the campaign, the Shulman campaign will be releasing a series of questions that New Jersey voters deserve to have answered by Scott Garrett.  Scott Garrett, despite a lifetime spent as a politician, remains a largely unknown figure to the public.

“For 73 years, Social Security has protected our seniors, lifting millions out of poverty and preserving the dignity of so many hardworking people who have made this country great,” said Dennis Shulman, the Democratic nominee in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District.

“Scott Garrett’s statements suggest that he would like to privatize Social Security on behalf of the special interests that fund his campaign, just like his leader, President Bush.  I call upon Scott Garrett to state, once and for all, if he would like to hand Social Security over to Wall Street. He has handed his congressional office over to a former lobbyist for the disgraced company at the center of the housing crisis, Countrywide Financial, and I fear he wants to hand Social Security over next.”

Dennis Shulman was recently profiled by The New Yorker and Time as momentum for his campaign continues to grow, and recent polling in the district validates the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s recent decision to upgrade NJ-5 as an “Emerging Race” and to buy advertising time in the district.  Only 31% of likely voters in NJ-5 plan to re-elect Garrett and, by a 68-17% margin, the district seeks change from George Bush’s policies.

Dr. Dennis Shulman has gained international recognition for his 30 years of work as a psychologist, educator, and author.  An ordained rabbi for five years and blind since childhood, he has lived in New Jersey’s Fifth District for more than 25 years with his wife, Dr. Pamela Tropper, an obstetrician. They have two adult daughters.
