In response to questions about whether Scott Garrett should suspend his campaign to return to Washington and focus on the economic bail out plan, as Senator McCain has pledged to do, Dennis Shulman’s campaign manager Jeff Hauser released the following statement:

“Scott Garrett should not cease campaigning, because the more time he spends actually talking to New Jersey taxpayers rather than undermining them in Washington, the better.

“Garrett, who sits on the House Financial Services Committee, is a big part of the reason we are in this mess. He has consistently voted against regulating the corrupt predatory lenders, like Countrywide Financial, who run his office, fund his campaign, and bear enormous culpability for this crisis.

“We would all be safer if Scott Garrett actually spent his time as a shrub farmer, not a corrupt politician. The last thing NJ and America needs is Scott Garrett in Washington making things worse, doing more favors for his special interest friends and throwing our economy off track.”

This morning the Shulman campaign released the first ad of the general election, attacking Garrett as a corrupt politician bad for New Jersey taxpayers. The ad may be viewed online at www.GarrettShrubs.com.

Dennis Shulman was recently profiled by The New Yorker and Time as momentum for his campaign continues to grow, and recent polling in the district validates the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s recent decision to upgrade NJ-5 as an “Emerging Race” and to buy advertising time in the district. Only 31% of likely voters in NJ-5 plan to re-elect Garrett and, by a 68-17% margin, the district seeks change from George Bush’s policies.

Dr. Dennis Shulman has gained international recognition for his 30 years of work as a psychologist, educator, and author. An ordained rabbi for five years and blind since childhood, he has lived in New Jersey’s Fifth District for more than 25 years with his wife, Dr. Pamela Tropper, an obstetrician. They have two adult daughters.
