Sitting Congressman’s farmland assessment applications are facially invalid; local officials have knowingly signed off on invalid, lucrative applications

Haworth, NJ - The Shulman for Congress campaign today received confirmation from the New Jersey Office of Record Access that Scott Garrett has never filed the form necessary in order to receive a massive Farmland Assessment tax break.

“Scott Garrett is cheating on his taxes,” said Jeff Hauser, campaign manager for Dennis Shulman, the Democratic nominee for New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District. “Scott Garrett `declares under the penalties provided by law’ each year that he qualifies for a massive tax break for his `tree and shrub’ farm. Signing his name to that form means that he has agreed to produce very specific documents which both the Wantage Tax Assessor and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection have confirmed today that he does not provide. Therefore, Scott Garrett is cheating on his taxes.”
