As Shulman’s momentum continues to grow, recent fundraising data proves how out of touch Garrett is with the constituents he supposedly represents

Haworth, NJ - Today, the Shulman for Congress campaign issued a statement criticizing Scott Garrett’s most recent campaign contributions, all of which he took after refusing to join in Shulman’s pledge to never take campaign cash from a corporate special interest he oversees in Congress. These contributions include checks from the Mortgage Insurance Company PAC, the American Electric Power Committee, WalMart’s WAL-PAC, and JP Morgan & Chase.

“Scott Garrett has consistently put the well-being of his campaign contributors above that of his constituents, and these recent contributions are no exception to the rule,” said Dennis Shulman, the Democratic nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s Fifth District. “From the over $1,000,000 he’s already taken from the oil & gas and financial services industries, to these recent corporate contributions, Garrett is beholden to Big Oil and other corporate special interests. And time after time, he votes against crackdowns on price gouging by oil companies, in favor of tax breaks for Exxon-Mobile, against increasing the minimum wage, and most tellingly, against any reasonable regulation of the financial services industry.”

“Our campaign for change runs on the grassroots energy and thousands of small contributions from this district’s hardworking citizens. Teachers, carpenters, homemakers, small business owners…they’re all giving whatever they can to restore sensible leadership to New Jersey’s Fifth District. In the past ten days alone, we’ve received over 900 online contributions from folks who know that we can do better than Garrett’s out-of-touch corruption.”

The Shulman for Congress campaign reported over $80,000 in campaign contributions from October 1st through October 15th, while Garrett’s reports were just under $75,000.
